Psalm 98:1 (NIV)

Sing to the Lord a new song, for he has done marvelous things; his right hand and his holy arm have worked salvation for him.

Musicians and song writers are always writing new songs. What is their motivation? Usually they write and sing from their own experience. Here we are told to sing a new song to the Lord. Same reason. He has done marvelous things and that makes us want to sing about it. There is something about worshiping the Lord through song that connects our emotional being with our intellectual being. Not only do we hear and understand the words, we they are put together in such a way that stirs the heart.

I know I have always enjoyed listening to music. Before I was saved I listened to mostly rock music and some progressive country music. I still am fond of the old songs I used to listen to but I don't find myself listening very much. I want to sing a new song, a song about my experience with my Lord. I can pray to God, but I find that when I mix that with some praise and worship, I feel more connected.

Colossians 3:16 (NIV)

Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God.
