1 Kings 7:51a (NKJV)

So all the work that King Solomon had done for the house of the Lord was finished

Acts 7:48-50 (NKJV)

However, the Most High does not dwell in temples made with hands, as the prophet says: "Heaven is My throne, And earth is My footstool. What house will you build for Me? says the Lord, Or what is the place of My rest? Has My hand not made all these things?"

I've been reading about the temple that King Solomon built. Think about all the magnificent cathedrals that have been built over the centuries. But when we visit them, are we inspired by God and his glory? Certainly we are impressed with the dedication and skill with which men built these buildings. However, these buildings are dead. Most of them are no longer here or else they are in a sad state of disrepair. When God builds something, he makes it live. Think about life. It is constantly being renewed. Even the cells within our bodies are being completely replaced every several months with new ones. As amazing as some things are that man's ingenuity has built, man can only dream of building self-repairing and self-reproducing machines. Yet, our own bodies are perfect examples of such. Truly we are the creature and not the creator.
