Respect for God

The God of the Old Testament is arguably the most unpleasant character in all fiction: jealous and proud of it; a petty, unjust, unforgiving control-freak; a vindictive, bloodthirsty ethnic cleanser; a misogynistic, homophobic, racist, infanticidal, genocidal, filicidal, pestilential, megalomanical, sadomasochistic, capriciously malevolent bully. Begin in Genesis with the well-loved story of Noah, derived from the Babylonian myth of Uta-Napisthim and known from the older mythologies of several cultures. The legend of the animals going into the ark two by two is charming, but the moral of the story of Noah is appalling. God took a dim view of humans, so he (with the exception of one family) drowned everyone else including children and also, for good measure, the rest of the (presumably blameless animals as well. Of course, irritated theologian types, like yourself will protest that we don’t take the book of Genesis literally any more. But that is the whole point! We pick and choose which bits of scripture to believe, which bits to write off as symbols or allegories. Pat Robertson would be harmless comedy, were he less typical of those who today hold power and influence in this country. In the destruction of Sodom and Gomorra, the Noah equivalent, chosen to be spared with his family because he was uniquely righteous, was Abraham’s nephew Lot. Two male angels were sent to Sodom to warn Lot to leave the city before the brimstone arrived. Lot hospitably welcomed the angels into his house, whereupon all the men of Sodom gathered around and demanded that Lot should hand the angels over so that they could (what else?) sodomize them: “Where are the men which came in to thee this night? Bring them out unto us, that we may know them” (Genesis 19:5). But Lot’s halo is tarnished by the terms of his refusal: “I pray you, brethren, do not so wickedly. Behold now, I have two daughters which have not known man; let me, I pray you, bring them out unto you, and do ye to them as is good in your eyes: only unto these men do nothing; for therefore came they under the shadow of my roof: (Genesis 19: 7-8). If this dysfunctional family was the best Sodom had to offer by way of morals, some might begin to feel a certain sympathy with God and his judicial brimstone. Such unpleasant episodes in Abraham’s story are mere peccadilloes compared with the infamous tale of the sacrificing of his son Isaac (Muslim scripture tells the same story about Abraham’s other son, Ishmael). God ordered Abraham to make a burnt offering of his longed-for son. As it turns out God was only joking after all, “tempting” Abraham, and testing his faith. A modern moralist cannot help but wonder how a child could ever recover from such psychological trauma. By the standards of modern morality, this disgraceful story is an example simultaneously of child abuse, bullying in two asymmetrical power relationships, and the first recorded use of the Nuremberg defense: “I was only following orders.” Once again, modern theologians will protest that the story of Abraham sacrificing Isaac should not be taken as literal fact. And, once again, the appropriate response is twofold. First, many many people, even to this day, do take the whole of their scripture to be literal fact, and they have a great deal of political power over the rest of us, especially in the United States and in the Islamic world. Second, if not as literal fact, how should we take the story: an allegory? Then an allegory for what? Surely nothing praiseworthy. Those with the power to elect our presidents and congressmen – and many who themselves get elected – believe that dinosaurs lived two by two upon Noah’s ark, that light from distant galaxies was created en route to the earth, and that the first members of our species were fashioned out of dirt and divine breath, in a garden with a talking snake, by the hand of an invisible God. This my friend, should trouble you.

If you're going to copy your postings out of Richard Dawkins' "The God Delusion", you should at least give him credit for the original authorship.

The previous post took the words right out of my mouth. Please pardon me but I’m not sure that I did the hyperlinks correctly. Mr. Carroll, please pardon the length of this post and the fact that I link to some of my own writings. I don’t know if you edited D. Bryant’s post but if it was sent to you as is D. appears to have engaged in plagiarism since the text of the post is indeed quoted from Richard Dawkins’ book “The God Delusion” (actually an edited quote) and the last paragraph is mostly from an article by Sam Harris. One can only assume that D. is in such agreement with Dawkins that the post was none but a whole hearted approval of Dawkins’/Harris’ statements (short of book, chapter & verse). Functioning off of this assumption one is forced to assume that they both do not seem understand that just because the Bible states something it does not mean that it is endorsing it. In other words, the Bible describes & prescribes. To take something that it describes & assume that it is prescribing it only goes to demonstrate a shocking level of misunderstanding. I wrote an essay covering many of Dawkins’ mishandlings of the Bible called “Planting God More Firmly on His Throne”=“http://atheistricharddawkins.blogspot.com/2007/11/richard-dawkins-planting-god-more.html” Let us perform a quick survey of the post’s statements: -“The God of the Old Testament is arguably…” two things to mention here: we can assume that most, if not all, of these besmirchments are based on D.’s/Dawkins’ misunderstandings & lack of basic discernment. Based on absolute materialism, just how is morality determined? (please see my “Introducing the Dawkinsian Weltanschauung”=“http://atheistricharddawkins.blogspot.com/2007/11/richard-dawkins-introducing-dawkinsian.html”). Moreover, while it is tragically sad to ponder, we must simply pose a question—if that is what someone thinks about God will God “force them to spend eternity in heaven”=“http://lifeanddoctrine.blogspot.com/2005/11/on-hell-hell-is-place-of-departing.html” with Him? -“story of Noah…known from the older mythologies” but why assume that people who lived in vast isolation from each other (chronologically & geographically) were plagiarizing? Perhaps the fact that many of the most ancient “myths” of “cultures around the world”=“http://www.nwcreation.net/noahlegends.html” tell the same basic stories (a pristine garden, a flood, etc.) means that the “events actually occurred”=“http://www.answersingenesis.org/articles/am/v2/n2/flood-legends” & thus became pre-historic history that in this case is known as “myth” or “legend.” -“don’t take the book of Genesis literally any more…We pick and choose” succinctly, to take literally means to “take it as it is intended”=“http://lifeanddoctrine.blogspot.com/2005/11/how-do-you-read-bible-have-you-ever.html” yet, no one is as literal as Dawkins (Harris, Dennett, Hitchens, etc.) if we define literal as not considering hermeneutics. -On a few occasions D./Dawkins appear to not take the time to visualize the scenario presented in the text they are quoting but seem to be merely following letters into words into sentences, etc. & forget what is actually occurring. We don’t actually know very much about Lot except that the Bible, being as honest as it is, depicts one particular instance when his behavior was no less than repugnant. Lot found that his home was accosted by a mob & while this does not excuse his repulsive actions it does inform us that he was in a very dangerous & mentally/emotionally stressed state. When he offers his daughters to the mob the angels would have none of that nonsense & it’s precisely at that point that they act in defense of the girls. -“Muslim scripture tells the same story about Abraham’s other son, Ishmael” not necessarily so, that is an inference from the text of the Qur'an. In fact, at least “43 ancient documents that predate Islam side with the Bible”=“http://lifeanddoctrineislamicus.blogspot.com/2006/07/who-was-abraham-told-to-sacrifice.html”. -“how a child could ever recover from such psychological trauma” in that time & place human sacrifice was a given & for all we know it was considered an honor to be sacrificed. -“the Nuremberg defense” Abraham conjured no defense at all since what he was doing was the worship systems de jour. He did not even hesitate because this was standard operating procedure for the worship of the gods of that place & time. It is incredible to think that the event that made it crystal clear that the God of the Bible was different from other gods & would never accept child sacrifice is so abused & misunderstood. The New Testament states that “By faith Abraham…offered up Isaac…of whom it was said, ‘In Isaac your seed shall be called,’ concluding that God was able to raise him up, even from the dead” (Hebrews 11:17-19). Thus, “by faith” means: by logical inference. -“many many people, even to this day, do take the whole of their scripture to be literal fact…especially in the United States & in the Islamic world” yes, and that event is why Judaism, Christianity & Islam have never practiced child sacrifice. When the Bible records Jews doing any such things it’s clear that they had fallen away from worshiping the God of the Bible & were worshiping gentile/pagan gods. Now to the D./Harris portion: -“dinosaurs lived…upon Noah’s ark” the average size of a dinosaur was the size of a sheep & the babies of even the largest dinosaurs were small. -“light from distant galaxies was created en route to the earth” this is an extremely narrowly held view but we might as well mention that time dilation as expressed in the general theory of relativity means that “millions of years could have elapsed in parts of the universe while days elapsed in others”=“http://www.creationists.org/humphreys.html”. -“the first members of our species were fashioned out of dirt” but is this not a scientific “prediction” that the human body is composed of the same elements found in dirt/soil/earth? As journalist and senior editor of Skeptic magazine Frank Miele put it in an “interview with Dawkins”=“http://scepsis.ru/eng/articles/id_3.php”, “the clay from which we are made.” -“& divine breath” the Bible states “divine breath” & Dawkins states blind random chance (for life’s origin). -“a talking snake” there is so much to say here that all we can provide is rabbit hole that lead to further research. Certainly some believe that there was a talking snake but there is no real need to do so & it would not be due to picking & choosing or embarrassment at the modern (& “logically fallacious”=“http://lifeanddoctrineatheism.blogspot.com/2007/02/atheisms-circular-logic-one-time.html”) denial of miracles. It is generally understood that the “snake”/”serpent” in the garden was lucifer who came to be known as the “that ancient serpent” (Rev 12:9) who is told “You were in Eden, the garden of God” (Eze 28:12). Lucifer, the luminescent one, was referred to as a snake/serpent due to his craftiness & due the root word meaning of “practice divination” or “enchantment”/“enchanter.” This enchanter was told “On your belly you shall go” (Gen 3:14), being brought down from his lofty state (see Eze 28:12-19 & Isa 14:11-19). Jesus said, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven” (Luke 10:18). This being was also told “you shall eat dust” (Genesis 3:14), playing off of Adam being made from dust, “Adam” meaning dustman/earthling. Thus, we see that with a slight understanding of literary devises & greater contexts the story is actually presenting a complex tapestry & has nothing to do with either a negatively inclined “literal” reading like D.’s/Dawkins’/Harris’ & also one that does not call for us to pick, choose or reinterpret—we simply take it as it is intended. This lack of basic discernment skills employed in such a malicious manner my friend, should trouble you. It is fascinating to think that someone would commit plagiarism in discussing morality (if that in fact is the case here).

Wow, Mariano, your post was fascinating and well put. I shall enjoy perusing your site. I contemplated deleting that original comment but I didn't because it provided such a stark contrast to my thoughts that I thought it might serve to enhance (sort of like a jewel against a black velvet background). When I originally read the comment, I thought "and this is supposed to make me very afraid?" I felt rather sad for the author and now I find out it was Dawkins' words! I'm glad I left it. Just in the last day, months later, you and the other poster have shown the comment for what it really was: plagiarism and furthermore, biased mishandling of the biblical text. Thanks again. P.S. OBLITERATE THE GREEK CONSPIRACY IN THE SCRIPTURES ( to erase or obscure something completely, leaving no trace) YahYah 5:39-40 ‘search the scriptures, for in them ye think ye have Eternal Life, and they are they which testify of me. And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life’. The First-Early-Researchers of the Hebrew Scriptures did not come to Yahshu’a the real and true Messiah but instead they come to falsified and invented name ‘Iesous Kristos’ later become ‘Jesus Christ’ that never existed on that ministerial time of Yahshu’a Messiah 2,000 years ago because their was no ‘Iesous’ name and without letter ‘J’ at the time when the Hebrew Messiah Yahshu’a of Nazareth walk on this earth . But before we continue, in better understanding of using the name YahYah instead of Yochanan for the name John, we are all knowing that there was no letter ‘J’ when the time of ministerial of Yahshu’a Messiah and therefore the name ‘J’ohn is not acceptable. In Israel today they were using the name ‘Yochanan’ for ‘John’ but ‘Yochanan’ name has no power to make a mute to speak in Luke 1:22, Luke 1:59-64, and in Luke 1:61 is contrary to ‘Yochanan’ of YeremiYah 43 :4. Only the Sacred Name of Yahweh has the power to do this. The name of ‘John’ is ‘Yahya’ in Arabic (see Holy Quran) which originated from Semitic language of ancient Hebrew name ‘YahYah’ the son of Priest ZechariYah. By using the name ‘Yochanan’ or ‘John’ without knowing it, is one way of avoiding to pronounced the Sacred Name ‘Yah’ like in Ezra 2:2 they wrote Yahshu’a as Yeshu’a. Let’s go back to those First-Early-Researchers who had done their researches on the scriptures thinking they will have Eternal Life and these Early-Researchers testified about the mighty things done by the Messiah. BUT these Early-Researchers DID NOT COME TO YAHSHU’A MESSIAH so that they might have life, but instead they come to (IESOUS KRISTOS) Yehsous the Greek Messiah and NOT to YAHSHU’A the Hebrew MESSIAH because they have no love of Yahweh in them, YahYah 5:39-42. The only significant contributions of those First-Early-Researchers are, they are those that testified about the many mighty things done by the Messiah whom they don’t know the name, and branded the Messiah as Kristos and the name they erroneously transliterated in Greek as ‘Yehsous’ written IESOUS. YahYah 5:42-43 Early-Researchers Have No Love Of Yahweh And Did Not Come To YAHSHU’A MESSIAH, But Instead They Come To IESOUS KRISTOS The Greek Messiah During the siege of Jerusalem in 70 A.D., the Christians left the city; and refused to take part in the Bar Coachaba rebellion in 132 A.D. These two events brought to the surface the difference between the Christians and the Yahuwdah (Jews). Christians and the Yahuwdah (Jews) The question of the origin of IESOUS KRISTOS , his nature and relation to Creator of Heaven and Earth, which later became so important, was not raised among these Early- Researchers. That IESOUS was a man super-naturally endowed by Theos (God) was accepted without question. Nothing in the words of ‘IESOUS KRISTOS’ or the events in his life led them to modify this view. According to Aristides, one of the earliest Greek apologists, the worship of the early Christians was more purely monotheistic even than of the Jews. They did not come to ‘Yahshu’a the Hebrew Messiah but instead they come to ‘IESOUS KRISTOS’ the Greek Messiah With the conversion of Apostle Saul (converted into Greek name ‘Paul’) a new period opened in Christian Theology. Paul's theology was based on his personal experience interpreted in the light of contemporary Greek thought. Saul heard the name in Hebrew (Acts 26:14-15) and of course the name mentioned was the Hebrew name ‘Yahshu’a’ not the Greek equivalent name ‘IESOUS’ .The theory of redemption was the child of his brain, a belief entirely unknown to the disciples of YAHSHU’A MESSIAH. The Greek translators of Saul's theory involved the deification of ‘IESOUS KRISTOS’. The Greek translators interpreted Saul writings, (YahYah 1:41, 2 Peter 1:20-21)and added to each chapter of the Gospel the Greek commentary highlights of any differences which exist between Saul Gospel and the primary Greek - mythology belief. It should be notice that while presenting the Gospel, chapter headings have been added and are not part of Saul Gospel's text. The Pauline period in the history of the Christian Church saw a big change of scene and principles. In place of the disciples, who had sat at the feet of Messiah, a new figure, who had not known the Messiah, had come to the forefront. In place of Palestine, the Roman Empire became the scene of Christian activity. Instead of being a mere sect of Yahuwdahnism (Judaism), Christianity not only became independent of Judaism but also became independent IESOUS KRISTOS himself. In place of Hebrew Messiah Yahshu’a , the deification of the Greek Kristos (IESOUS) Yehsous. Saul from the tribe of BenYahmin was a Yahuwdahish (Jewish) inhabitant of Tarsus. He had spent a long time in Rome and was a Roman citizen. He realized the strong hold which the Roman religion had on the masses. The intellectuals were under the influence of Plato and Aristotle.Saul seems to have felt that it would not be possible to convert the masses in the Roman Empire without making mutual adjustments. But his practical wisdom was not acceptable to those who had seen and heard ‘YAHSHU’A MESSIAH’. However, in spite of their differences, they decided to work together for the common cause. We notice that up to the 4th century A.D. there existed a sect known as Hypisistarians who refused to worship Theos as father. They revered Him as an All Mighty Ruler of the world, He was the Highest of all and no one was equal to Him. Paul of Samasata was a Bishop of Antioch. He was of the view that Kristos was not God but a man and a prophet. He differed only in degree from prophets who came before him and that God could not have become man substantially. Then we come across another Bishop of Antioch viz Lucian. As a Bishop his reputation for sanctity was not less than his fame as a scholar. He came down strongly against the belief of Trinity. He deleted all mention of Trinity from the Bible as he believed it to be a later interpolation not found in the earlier Gospels. He was martyred in 312 A.D. Next we come to the famous disciple of Lucian viz Arius (250-336 A.D.) He was a Libyan by birth. Peter Bishop of Alexandria ordained him a Deacon but later he was excommunicated him. Achilles the successor of Peter again ordained Arius as priest. Alexander the next Bishop of Alexandria once again excommunicated him. Arius however gathered such a large followers that he became a headache for the Church. If kept out of the Church he could be a great danger to her but he could not be accommodated within the Church as he wanted to establish the unity and simplicity of the Eternal God. He believed that how so ever much Kristos may surpass other created beings he himself was not of the same substance as God. He was as human being as any other man. The teaching of Arius spread like wild fire and shook the very foundation of the Pauline Church. The controversy that was simmering for three hundred years suddenly became a conflagration. No man dared to oppose the organized Church but Arius did, and remained a headache for her whether he was ordained a priest or was excommunicated. During this time two events changed the history of Europe. Emperor Constantine brought a greater part of Europe under his rule and secondly he began to support the Christians without accepting Christianity. To the soldier prince the different creeds within the Christian faith were very confusing. In the Imperial Palace itself the controversy was raging not less fiercely. It appears that perhaps the Queen Mother was inclined towards Pauline Christianity while his sister Princess Constantina was a disciple of Arius. The Emperor was wavering between the two faiths. As an administrator he was interested only in uniting all the Christians within one Church. It was at this time that the conflict between Arius and Bishop Alexander became so widespread and so violent that it became a law and order problem. So the Emperor anxious to maintain peace in the newly unified Europe had to intervene. THE FIRST COUNCIL OF NICEA Held in 325 A.D., this first ecumenical council was convened by Constantine I, emperor of Rome, to settle the Arian dispute concerning the nature of Iesous Kristos. Of the 1,800 bishops in the Roman Empire, 318 attended the council. The Nicene Creed, which defined the Son as consubstantial with the Father, was adopted as the official position of the Church regarding the divinity of Iesous Kristos. The council also fixed the celebration of Easter on the Sunday after the Jewish Pesach, or Passover, and granted to Bishop of Alexandria, authority in the East in the fashion of Rome's quasi-patriarchal authority,which was not, as sometimes erroneously stated, the same as that of the pope In this granting of authority lay the origin of the patriarchates throughout the Church. In 325 A.D. a meeting of all denominations of Christianity was called at Nicea (now called Iznik, Turkey). Bishop Alexander was not able to attend the conference and he deputed his lieutenant Athanasius, who subsequently succeeded Alexander as Bishop of Alexandria. The conference had many prolonged sessions. Emperor Constantine could not grasp the full implications of the ecclesiastical confrontation, but he was very clear in his mind that for maintaining peace in his realm the support and cooperation of the Church was necessary. Accordingly he threw his weight behind Athanasius and banished Arius from the realm. Thus the belief of Trinity became the official religion of the empire. The fearful massacre of Christians who did not believe in Trinity followed. It became a penal offense to possess a Bible not authorized by the Church and according to some estimates as many as 270 different versions of the Bible were burnt. Princess Constantina was not happy at the turn of events.The Emperor ultimately was persuaded to accept the faith of the men he killed.The result was that Arius was called back in 346. The day Arius was scheduled to visit the Cathedral of Constantinople in triumph, he died suddenly. The Church called it a miracle. The Emperor knew it was a murder. He banished Athanasius and two other Bishops. The Emperor then formally accepted Christianity and was baptized by an Arian Bishop. Thus Monotheism became the official religion. Constantine died in 337. The next Emperor Constantanius also accepted the faith of Arius. In 341 a conference was held in Antioch and Monotheism was accepted as a correct interpretation of Christian faith. This view was confirmed by another Council held in Sirmium in 351. As a result Arianism was accepted by an overwhelming majority of Christians. St. Jerome (Eusebius Hieronymus) wrote in 359 that 'the whole world groaned and marvelled to find itself Arian'. Mohammedans A.D. 622 Pope Honorius who saw the rising tide of Islam whose tenets very much resembled those of Arius. As the mutual killings of Christians was still fresh in his memory he perhaps thought of finding a via media between Islam and Christianity. In his letters he began to support the doctrine of 'one mind', because if Deus has three independent minds the result would be chaos. The logical conclusion pointed to the belief in the existence of one God. This doctrine was not officially challenged for about half a century. Pope Honorius died in October 638 A.D. In 680, i.e. 42 years after his death, a council was held in Constantinople where Pope Honorius was anathematized. This event is unique in the history of Papacy when a Pope was denounced as abomination by a succeeding Pope and the Church. The next two personalities of this faith that deserve mention were members of the same family. L. F. M. Sozzini (1525-1565) was native of Siena. In 1547 A.D. he came under the influence of Camillo a Sicilian mystic. His fame spread in Switzerland.He challenged Calvin on the doctrine of Trinity. He amplified the doctrine of Arius, denied the divinity of Christus and repu-diated the doctrine of original sin and atonement. The object of adoration according to him could only be the one and only one God. He was followed by his nephew F. P.Sozzini (1539-1604). In 1562 he published a work on St. John's Gospel denying the divinity of Iesus. In 1578 he went to Klausonburg in Transylvania whose ruler John Sigisumud was against the doctrine of Trinity. Here Bishop Francis David (1510-1579) was fiercely anti-Trinitarian. This led to the formation of a sect known as Racovian Catechism. It derives its name from Racow in Poland. This city became the stronghold of the faith of Arius. Among the present-day Christians large numbers of men and women still believe in one God. They are not always vocal,due to the crushing power of the Churches they cannot express themselves and there is not much communication between them. In the end it will be of interest to quote Athanasius the champion of Trinity. He says that whenever he forced his understanding to meditate on the divinity of Iesous Kristos his toilsome and unavailing efforts recoil on themselves, that the more he wrote the less capable was he of expressing his thoughts. At another place he pronounces his creed as:-There are not three but "ONE GOD". First-Early-Researchers Arius and Athanasius was Adapted by next Researchers Like the Research and doctrines of the First-Early-Researchers Arius and Athanasius it was adapted by next Researchers the Mohamedans, Calvin and Racovian and they brought into our present time Researchers doctrines. Those are the researches of First-Early-Researchers who did not come to Yahshu’a Messiah. The doctrine and teaching of Athanasius the champion of Trinity doctrine and Arius doctrine that Iesous Kristos the Greek Messiah is Son of Man was inculcated into the mind and belief of the present time researchers. Remember that Athanasius and Arius did not come to the correct Hebrew Messiah Yahshu’a that he might have life, but instead he come to Iesous Kristos the Greek Messiah. YahYah 5:39-40 ‘they ‘search the scriptures, for in them ye think ye have Eternal Life, and they are they which testify of me. And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life’. . “The Doctrine of First-Early-Researchers has no Life”. The Research of Yahshu’a Messiah Believers without the carry over or influences from the First-Early-Researchers YahYah 14:26 ‘but the Comforter, which is the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you’ 2 Peter 1:20-21 ‘knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation, for the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of Yahweh spake as they were moved by the Holy Spirit’. The One who will Teach us is the Holy Spirit send by the Almighty Father Yahweh in the name of YAHSHU’A MESSIAH that will bring all things to our remembrance of whatever Yahshu’a Messiah had said before. Yahshu’a Messiah is Son of Yahweh Not Son of Man Obliterate the doctrine of Arius Angel Gabriel Luke 1:32 ‘he shall be great and shall be called the Son of The Highest (Yahweh)’ Luke 1:35 ‘therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of Yahweh’. Luke Luke 3:23 ‘and Yahshu’a himself began to be about thirty years of age, being the son of Yoseph, which was the son of Heli’….. and continue to Luke 3:38 ‘Adam which was the Son of Yahweh’. Yahshu’a Messiah YahYah 10:36 ‘because I said I am the Son of Yahweh’. YahYah 12:32 ‘and if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me’. In 12:34 ‘the people answer him, ‘we have heard out of the law that the Messiah abideth forever; and how say thou, the Son of Man must be lifted up, who is this Son of Man? In many dictionaries and encyclopedias and even in ‘The Passion of Christ’ movie the name of Messiah was called Yahshu’a. Jesus dying word is Eli, Eli Lama Sabachtani was heard by witnesses. This Greek word Eli Lama Sabachtani has equivalent word in Hebrew as ‘Mah Yad Shebaq’. The witness should hear ‘Mah Yad Shebaq’ because Yahshu’a is a Hebrew man and speaking in Hebrew language not in Greek language (Acts 10:28, Acts 26:14). If Eli, Eli Lama Sabachtani is translation, then the witnesses will say he is waiting for ‘Mah Yad’ not for Prophet EliYah. First of all, I appreciated your post. It's befuddling sometimes to consider our position before God. I teach Bible classes, and the two topics that have come up most recently are worship and fear. First, worship... how ridiculous is it that we can bring anything before God that pleases Him. But, then, the audacity of so many Christians who think they can define worship in any way they please. Second, though (and I think more troublesome) is fear. Today's so-called greek experts are trying to soften the meaning of phobos (greek for fear or trembling) by saying it's merely "respect" and not at all fear like we think of fear. No it's fear. Pee your pants, knees knocking, run and hide fear. The OT characters understood that if they so much as saw God they would die. I think these efforts to reduce the meaning of the word "fear" are just continuations of our modern drive to create a God that is palatable to us, like a jolly grandpa in the sky.

Most bosses are not like that, but you never know which ones are. Make sure to protect yourself and speak up, respectfully, when you feel that a boss is being hurtful. Balance makes for better workers. The Torah tells us that employers and employees alike should take off one day a week, Shabbat. The purpose of this day is to lose touch with the work world, and those work pressures and worries in order to find balance in your life by getting in touch with your kids, family, and friends. Probably the most powerful management lessons I learned in Hebrew School were about decisiveness and teamwork. Three thousand years ago, Moses and twelve tribes of freed slaves stood on the shore of the Red Sea bracing for an attack by the army of their former masters. As they began to pray, God said to Moses, enough praying ... do something. Moses took action, leading the twelve tribes across the sea as one nation, proving that a decisive leader and a unified team can work miracles. It has been more than 30 years since I went to Hebrew school, and even longer since the time of Abraham and Moses, but it still stands that God is one great manager of people and that the Torah would make a heck of an HR manual. In this modern worls Tension and Stress comes from the way we interact with events in our outer social, physical and spiritual world. For example, we get caught up in traffic, miss an appointment, become frustrated, and then lash out with anger. If you are an impatient, short fused, hostile Type A personality, then matters become even worse. Your response sends your blood pressure soaring, dumps stress chemicals into your body, and cramps your muscles. However, maybe traffic doesn’t bother you, but something else drives you up a wall. That is why environmental events are situation specific. One event might make me more edgy than it would you, because you have better skills and experience to handle the situation. Perhaps you have a more positive, optimistic personality and are not uptight over little things. Here are some examples of possible pressure provoking events in the environment. •Inadequate communication skills or systems. •Inadequate skills in relationships that cause conflict. •Poor time management skills that keep you behind your deadlines. •Problems in the workplace such as problems with fellow workers. •Insufficient parenting skills that keep the family in an uproar. •Inability to make or handle money correctly, which brings the constant hassle of bill collectors. •Etc. This is the catch all category that identifies the area that causes you the most hassle in your life. Again, the environmental events are situation specific to each individual. The idea is that if you learn better stress management techniques for these situations, your tension will go down. Many lessons in this website address those specific areas.
